We offer service users the best possible support to develop their skills and meet their needs our homes are staffed 24 hours a day year round. Each shift is led by the Manager, the Deputy Manager or a Senior Care Support Worker, and there is a ‘hand over’ time for information to be passed on to the next shift.

The staff team has a variety of qualifications, skills, knowledge and experience. Other expertise is sub contracted through Sunfield.

Staffing structure is based on Service Users receiving 1:1 support throughout the day and 1:2 waking night carers.

The total number of staff employed and on duty is dependent on the number of service users living in the house and their assessed needs and daily activity timetable.

Staff recruitment
Our Staff recruitment and selection procedures are rigorous, we only employ staff once all satisfactory checks and references have been received. All staff are checked at enhanced level through the Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) and against the Protection of Vulnerable Adults List (POVA) Any relief or agency staff working with service users at Fairmont will also have been checked against the POVA List and have been submitted for enhanced CRB search by their agency within the previous 12 months.

Staff are primarily selected for their experience of working with people who are diagnosed with an Autistic Spectrum Disorder, Severe Learning Difficulties and challenging behaviour. We aim to employ only honest, talented, skilled, motivated and dedicated people, who are committed to using best practice. They will have received extensive professional training which they will apply on a day-to-day basis.

A minimum of 50% of our staff hold an appropriate NVQ Level II qualification or above but we aim for all staff to hold or work towards an appropriate qualification.  All new staff work a six-month probationary period.

Equal Opportunities Policy
Fairmont Residential Limited operates an equal opportunities policy with regard to disability, gender, race, culture, religion, and sexual orientation in both employment and service delivery. We at Fairmont value diversity.

Staff training
Fairmont is committed to providing all employees with guidance, training and resources, supervision and incident support to enable them to carry out their work to their full potential as part of an integrated staff team.

Staff undertake induction training within their first six weeks, and foundation training continues for the first six months of employment. Non qualified / trainee staff are registered on an NVQ  programme. We also deliver extensive further training specific to the needs of service users, and support staff in pursuing relevant vocational or academic qualifications. Our staff have access to training through Sunfield’s Professional Development and NVQ Centre.

Fairmont operates in line with legal requirements and best practice guidelines, and staff are further guided and assisted in their work by comprehensive Policy and Procedure documents, and through supervision and appraisal.

Key workers
Key workers work in partnership with service users and their chosen representatives. Each service user has a named key worker who takes the lead in supporting them in their day to day life. This support may be personal, emotional or practical. Working with the service user, the key worker facilitates personal contact with professionals, life planning (e.g. daily programmes, individual care plans, etc.), and regular contact with close relatives and friends. They also support service users’ celebration of holy days, festivals, birthdays and personal anniversaries. The key worker is responsible for encouraging an open and reciprocal working relationship between staff at the home and service users’ immediate families or close supporters.
